WHO is behind Tom´sroadkitchen

I am Thomas a passionate hobby cook and the creative mind behind this homepage and the blog. I was able to sniff the air of gastronomy at a young age, since I spent my school holidays and weekends in my grandparents' inn in Vienna and was also allowed to help. My grandmother was a gifted innkeeper who had traditional Austrian cuisine on the menu .

My professional development has developed in a completely different direction. After graduating from HTBLA, I started a technical career in 1990, which I have remained true to today.

I discovered my passion for cooking in 1996 during one of my first long stays abroad (Singapore). It all sounds very interesting to work abroad, to get to know the different cultures and cuisines, but after a while you long to go back to your home kitchen (beef soup, goulash, lentils with bacon, bread dumplings).

So I had no choice but to learn to cook. But how do you do it without a cookbook and without prior knowledge. I simply called my grandma and she explained what ingredients you need and how to prepare these dishes. In the beginning, some dishes ended up in the dung bucket, but I didn't give up and so I discovered my passion for COOKING.

In 19xx I was eating with Helmut Österreicher with my wife Andrea in Steirereck, at that time still located in the 3rd district on Rasumofskygasse . I was on the Geschmackse xplosion on the palate of the court so excited from then on I knew cooking is not the same as cooking. That was real palate sex. In order to breastfeed my knowledge of cooking, I not only started buying cookbooks (my collection consists of more than 100 books) but also started taking cooking classes - Alexander Hermann, Johanna Maier, Adi Bittermann, Juan Amador for just a few to call.

The absolute highlight to date was "Chef for a Day" - cooking with Silvio Nickol in the Palais Coburg. More about that in my section

My actual job also gives me the opportunity to travel a lot and get to know the country, people and their kitchens accordingly. I always take a lot of inspiration from my travels and try to incorporate it into my cooking .

I am fascinated by how good food can make you happy and I enjoy cooking or trying out a meal or a whole menu for my family or friends and enchanting them with it.

The a verything I could not do that if I would not support my wife Andrea to accompany me to the cooking classes and shares my passion with me - THANK YOU

Also a thank you to Gerald Koller alias GERONIMO who drew the caricature.
